Canals of Navigli
Milan is a large and vibrant city, and impossible to see in a few days. There are little gems all over the city and the residents live life to the fullest. Exploring the city after unpacking in your
lodging in Milan should begin as soon as possible. There is so much to see, so much to eat and so much shopping to do you can not begin too soon. One of the districts that is the most stunning to explore is
Navigli.
- The canals of Milan were constructed between 1179 and the 16th century in order to bring water to the city and to aid in transporting merchandise. Leonardo actually worked on the design of the dams that bring the water to the two remaining canals.
- Shopping in the district is extremely reasonably priced compared to many other parts of Milan. If you have found an apartment for rent in Milan that is just south of the city center you can walk all of your purchases back. Otherwise the buses provide very frequent access.
- Taking photos here is a must. This is one of the loveliest places in all of Milan, with characteristic bridges and beautiful backdrops, especially when the streets are lit at night. It is even easier to have beautiful photos during late spring and early summer when the zone is closed to autos.
- Going out in Navigli is a right of passage. Aperitivo is offered virtually everywhere in the district. Follow that with the multitude of restaurants and nightclubs that the district boasts and you will be entertained from 6pm until 2 am.
